Cars in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police stated they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
